I find it hard to concentrate on a book while train announcement are being played. Do the people responsible realise how useless and annoying these messages are?

"Welcome to the South west trains service to Southampton."
click...

click
"Calling at Woking, Guildford, a list of other places you've never heard of."
click...

Announcement finished. I can read my book.

click...
"For your convenience, this train is fitted with annoyomatic 2000 announcement system"
..click

Okay... Now I can read my book!

click....
"Carefully designed to provide the maximum level of distraction with the lowest amount of useful information"
click....

Finished now?

click....
"And carefully designed pauses between announcements jsut to addd to the irritation."
click....

Evidently not.

click...
"For refreshment, this service has a buffet car in the centre carriage "
click....

Sigh... Any more?

click....
"This is a quiet carriage."
click....

They also these days insist on asking us to read the safety information notice and remind us that there is no smoking anywhere on the train.

For poop sakes that's the airplane too. You get to sleep, you're on your third lay over, your body thinks it's 4:00 AM but no, hell no, can the pilot shut the f**k up?? I do not need a blow-by-blow of every landmark I'm flying over, thanks.

Used to live in New York City where they sport quite the accent. Humans with no ability to announciate would yell out the next stop.
"Yonkers"
There was NO knowing what was said. And heaven help you if you have to ask someone for an interpretation.
