Apr. 25th, 2005 04:03 pmI think I need to find a better hotel in Bristol. The Washington was once a perfectly pleasant inexpensive hotel that served nice breakfasts. But the prices seem to keep going up, and the quality of breakfast isn't as good as it used to be. Sadly, I don't know of any other hotels in the area I want to stay. This isn't totally true. Actually, I know of several, but I have no idea how good any of them are. It is always nice to have my own bed though. I don't get a good night's sleep on other people's floors.
In this case, I made up for the high price by taking anything I could justify taking from the room. Just all the consumables (except the Nescafe coffee). Nothing I didn't have the right to.
But anyway, my excuse to visit Bristol this weekend was C3PO's 24 hour panto plus Improv plus Sketches.
And to meet up with friends who live too far away to visit often. Some were going to see the production, others would require visiting.
I'd invited
spacefall along. She turned up, and after a few seconds of chat we were talking about Alan Turing. Spacefall's great! How many other people do I know who can drop Second World war Cryptanalysts into a conversation?
So, we saw the stuff. There weren't many sketches, but what there was was good. I was a little disappointed that there weren't any musical numbers. Improv was quite good. I think I chose seats badly though. The loudest part of the room was the till in the bar. The actors kept getting drowned out. Improv was good. 24 Hour play was Rah Wars. Mainly a Star Wars/Matrix spoof. Some good lines. Way too many were stolen from Red Dwarf though. Zero - the Neo character - was programmed with fighting moves, opened his eyes and said "I know feng shui!".
Spacefall had to disappear after that, so I let her escape. Then joined everyone another set of cronies for cider.
There are more andmore places that do decent cider opening in Bristol. Who wants to go fr a very short pub crawl next time I'm in Bristol? I'm thinking of going to one of the good cider pubs, and staying there.
Next day I gought up with
tyrshundr,
vanir and
the_smut_fairy. Chatted. Drank tea.
I complained bitterly about the lack of originality in games.
tyrshundr suggested I should base a game on cooking. It's an intriguing concept. Go to the supermarket. Buy groceries. Take advantage of special offers. Get home, and prepare recipes with as balanced a diet as possible. Problems are caused by supermarkets not having the ingredients you need, and guests being fussy eaters. It's a nice idea. I think it might work well as a concept for a card game.
Went out for dinner. I wanted soemmwhere with a good veggie option, and preempted the usual conversation. The usual conversation goes something like this:
Me:"Do they have a good vegetarian selection?"
Other Person:"Are you a vegetarian then."
Me:"No."
Which always seems to confuse people for some reason. But just because I've got no objection to meat doesn't mean I don't occasionally want to go without. I like to try the vegetarian option when eating out.
Played a game of something or other Warhammer related. I played a slightly mystified and naive watchman. I wasn't intending to play a character with those characteristics, but not being a roleplayer, and therefore being slightly naive and confused about the whole thing, my character ended up the same way.
random webcomic link that I think will appeal to
ingaborg unless she's already seen it.
