Stranded, Cloistered, Korea and cocktails
Sep. 4th, 2018 03:43 pmLast day with the lovely Liz.
Went for a stroll to Strand Bookshop, looking for breakfast on the way. Found a nice cheap diner type place with an incomprehensible selection of egg options. Unfortunately none of the shouting to the kitchen "3 bemused otters with a distressed snake on the side" since it was cooked in front of us. Still, it was tasty and cheap.
Fed and satisfied, we went to find somewhere for a birthdau cocktail. It's traditional that flickums buys be one for my birthday. This was a day late because we weren't in the mood on the day and I wanted to give flickums time with her friend. Saw a potentially exciting place that was speakeasy style, but when we got there it was closed. So we tried Grand Central instead. There was a nice bar there and the barman seemed very happy to make up a cocktail for me, based on my request. I think he was happy to actually show off his mixing skills.
So, having drunk cocktail we went in search of the Marilyn Monroe grate from 7 year itch. Took a while to find it. we were hping there was some plaque or something to tell us where it was, but alas no. We worked it out from photos.
Sure was hot. Flickums does not do heat, and I'm not that keen. Maybe we should have tried Alaska.

We found the bookshop and Flickums made a point of buying enough books to ensure that we're well over the luggage allowance on the way back. Bookshop done, we dived into Dunkin' Donuts for the true US experience, and set off for the Met Cloisters. One long subay ride later, an then a climb up the hill, we arrived at the museum. God, it was hot! Really hot! And the museum was at the top of a hill. Had a look around. Cloisters is dedicated to medieval eurpean art and architecture. Lots of genuine pieces of buildings. And unicorn tapestries. They seemed to be very mean to the poor unicorns though.
Reutrned home and sadly had to see Liz off. She was only around for the Labor Day weekend and had a home to return to. We saw her safely onto a train, and then we set of for a Korean barbecue. These are based on the typical Kalbi restaurants in Korea. Hotplate in the middle of the table, and food is cooked there. A selection of spices is provided and lettuce leaves to wrap the food.Fed and satisfied, we went to find somewhere for a birthdau cocktail. It's traditional that flickums buys be one for my birthday.
