It's
flickums birthday!
Still feeling the effects of a cold. Still, Flickums was well enough to enjoy opening the many many prezzies that I lugged all the way to Belgium.
Flickums had never been to Bruges. I felt this was something that needed to be remedied. As always, in a small country it takes very little time to get anywhere by train. And Bruges is really very nice. Calling it "Venice of the North" is something of a disservice because it's very much its own place. And it is a fairy tale town! Canals and bridges and cobbled streets and churches are really pretty.
Decided to get crepes. Went to a nice little cafe and ordered some Crepes Normande. Crepes made with sauted apple - the thinly sliced apple embedded in the pancake batter. They are absolutely delicious!
Ambled around town a little more. Saw some boats tours zipping under the bidges. Thought this seemed like a good idea because boats are fun, the weather was pleasant and it's something we could do while sitting down. And it was. We saw many of the sights of Brussels and went under many bridges.
Ambled around town a little more. Found a nice shop selling gifts. Considered the torture museum but felt it would be a little rushed. Sat around for a bit and then went for a tasty tasty dinner for flickums's birthday. It really was tasty! I had the beef. She had the lamb. She had chocolate mousse (should have requested a candle). I had cheese.
Checked train times back. I found the travel planner confusing, and it looked like there was very little time to get the train home. So rushed a bit. Then realised that I'd got mixed up a little and was looking at a completely different station. Still, it meant we got to the station with plenty of time to spare.
