Trains, Planes, and Automobiles

There's something about the way a steam train pulls away. Smooth and slow, with a gentle clatter.
It was the 40's weekend at East Lancashire Railway. Except this year, because of the jubilee (and a desire to tone down the war stuff because of Ukraine) it's a 40'sand 50's weekend. We went 40's. I dressed in RAF stuff and flickums went for a lovely green dress.
Flickums insisted on buying me a cream tea in the observation car. So we did! I feel spoiled.
Didn't actually get the tea until we were almost at the end because the boiler took a while to heat up. Still, there was enough time to turn around to finish a cuppa. Had a quick look around the station. Wasn't a lot to see though. There was a bar and some singers but that's it, so we jumped back on the train. Stopped at Ramsbottom (snigger). There were some vintage cares outside including a police car. The owners were dressed as police and posed for photos by arresting people.
There was a small fete but not as much there as I expected. Turns out there wasn't much there though. Last time they had a lot more. This year there was a singer and a long wait for a train. But we danced to the singer. A man took a video of us and chatted a bit but I
had trouble making out what he was saying.
Train arrived and we got back to Bury. This is where most of the stuff happens. Had a crappy sandwich in the cafe, saw another singer, and waited for a Hawker Hurricane flyby. It flew by. It was a bit "blink and you'll miss it" but it flew around again and we got a much closer look.
Had a look in the model shop. Then had a look in the transport museum. Price of place there is the Union Of South Africa. A huge A4 class. Last time we were here it was still running but it's expensive to keep these locomotives boilers up to safety standards. No idea what was there before. There's a bunch of other vintage vehicles, but I can't help feeling I'd have felt a bit disappointed if it wasn't included in the ticket price.
Sadly we didn't get to see the brass band who were there last time. They're there on the Sunday. Will have to plan for that next time.
