My Big Fat Geek Wedding!

Wow! I'm married!
flickums is now Mrs. Luckykaa
So, after over a year of planning, and a sleepless night, we had a fantastic wedding and celebration. So many friends and family came and we had such a wonderful time.
I think the stress was worth it in the end, but that's all I'll mention about that - the prep stress can be for another time. I will say though it was really useful to have Gwen as our woodland critter. Top tip - if you ever have a wedding, get a couple of energetic people on the day to act as gophers - people to run between rooms and find people.
The weather on the day was great! It had been raining all week so having a nice hot sunny day for the actual even was such a relief.
Vicky painted my nails a gorgeous chrome blue. I was on the fence about this at first but I decided it would be nice to look my absolute best. And she did an absolutely bang up job. It did mean I needed to do a round trip from where I was staying, but I had time, and I had the opportunity to run another errand - a bridesmaid needed frying pan - I did have to warn everyone to keep Flickums away from Windows when I arrived.
So, I got dressed; My outfit was based on Robert from Enchanted. I struggled a bit to get the boots on but they went on. We entered the Bestmobile and headed down to the venue. Some guests were already there. So was the event organiser. She was delighted that we brought confetti because there were two very energetic tiny princesses that needed a job to do. Carol suggested we put packets on seats. The tech person seemed pleased that I'd made our music player as simple as possible. A repurposed phone with exactly one app available and exactly the 4 playlists we needed.
Enjoyed milling around greeting guests. Started to get a little worried that our witnesses didn't seem to be there. This involved a lot of anxious pacing, but eventually they arrived. Katie was a replacement witness, but we hadn't updated the seat reservations so Katie got to be Greg for the day.
Did all the stuff and the certemony got underway. The music - "The Dawn Will Come" from Dragon Age Inquisition started and Flickums entered. This was the first time I got to see Flickums in the wedding dress, and oh, my god! She looked amazing! The dress was Snow White with an upgrade to Queen. The makeup was 40's pinup. Wow!
So we did the ceremony, Flickums was a little nervous but was great! We were each asked if we wanted to marry. I did! Flickums did! So we signed the register and suddenly we were married. We left to Storybook Love (instrumental version) from The Princess Bride.
Posed for photos. Chadkirk Chapel is such a gorgeous venue. We didn't need to do anything to the place because it was perfect just the way it was. After not enough time, we jumped into the car - a really nice vintage style Beuford Tourer convertible! We got friendly honks, and people waved at us! We arrive to applause! We were helped out of the car and treated to a Kir Royale and glass of lemonade.
We did the rounds. Chatted to people. So many people!
Food was served. Food was eaten. And so onto the speeches.
First up was Ruth. She gave a lovely speech full of lovely advice including the advice that she can't give advice for every situation.
Next up was my turn. I threw in a selection of geeky references because I knew the crowd. It had taken me ages to come up with where I wanted to go but something I settled on a long time ago, even though the reference might go over peoples heads, was I wanted to finish with "As you wish" from the Princess Bride. I got a lot of "aww"s for that. I think most people got it. Best man's speech was funny and only slightly insulting. Apparently my "I do" was the most decisive I've ever been.
Food over, speeches over, we all left while they turned the room round and we started on a NERF battle! I was a little taken aback that the hotel just nodded it through. But it self organised - people made sure we were aware of some basic safety including the "Man down" call - a LARP thing where, if someone is injured, everything stops.
It was such a lot of fun! It was really nice to let of a little steram and just run round shooting at people. The rule we seemed to stick to was "there are no rules!" However later on we decided to start duelling. I was challenged by Julian (or did he choose me?). I chose a second. He chose a second. Our seconds were rubbish. After several missed shots, he won. I had a second duel with Tam. I won that one!
After people were done with that I was again pleased that people were collecting spent NERF darts.
We were a little worried that nobody seemed to be using the photo booth. Everyone was running around outside and didn't even know it was there. So we spread the word and let people know. Fortunately once people had realised they started using it.
Cutting the cake went without a hitch! This was a simple task. I don't think we could have got it wrong.
Our last official duty as a married couple was the first dance. We'd planned this although rather last minute. We had had a few practices on our patio but not as many as I'd like. But we did the dance. And nailled it!
Actually we made a load of mistakes, but the wonderful thing was nobody knew waht it was meant to be like so they didn't care! I got a few verbal reminders from Flickums. There wasn't quite enough room for a promenade. The big twirls got lots of oohs! And people liked that we ended with a drop.
After that I could relax. There was nothing to worry about. I just had to mill round and chat, and maybe kick off a game of Apples to Apples. Felt a bit bad that people weren't dancing but the DJ really should have assessed that we were an older, nerdier crowd. After a bit people did start dancing. Perhaps I should have suggested he play Star Trekkin'.
So that was it. I wanted to spend some time milling around and chatting, and so did Flickums. But it is traditional that the bride and groom turn in early. What happened next is between me and my new wife!
