Honeymoon time! First holiday with my wonderful wife,
flickums ! Of course I've been on holiday with Flickums before but not as a wife
But first the epic flight to Bali! First stop was 4 hours to Istanbul. A very modern spacious airport that we could tell they were very proud of, because we spent 20 minutes driving around in the plane before we stopped at a gate.
Spent a couple of hours getting food and drink and chilling in the airport before the next leg - 12 hours to Bali! Long flights are not fun. Still, we arrived at the hotel, had a slight miscommunication regarding room service regarding food, stopped at a Circle K for food, and relaaaax!!!! Hotel is lovely, with air conditioning, a large bath and a rainfall shower! Washing all the travel off is such a relief!
Day 1 was a chill out day.
We went to the pool. Went to the beach swam and had cocktails. Had a very nice lunch. Then got a bit lost on the way back. The route I thought we took instead took us to come government building. We went for a slightly roundabout route before we found a road back to where we'd come from. At this point, Flick's sandal broke. As luck would have it, there was a shop selling sandals right there. So we bought some more sandals.
Booked a bunch of excursions. Sadly it seems my credit card has been blocked because booking excursions looks like fraud to Halifax. And can't really fix it because international calls are expensive and Skype is rubbish (and don't get me started on Microsoft's password policies!). Oh well. I have cash. Although I'm depleting that rapidly.
In the evening we booked the first of our wedding gifts. Except we cheated a little. The gift was dinner on the beach. The thing is, we saw a very nice romantic sunset cruise 5 course dinner instead. Can we consider a boat to be a beach? It is right next to the sea after all.
So, we were picked up from our airport. Balinese drivers probably aren't the worst, but they're very pushy. Was still a fairly nice drive though and we got to look at some of the country. Arrived at the boat, taken aboard and it turns out we were the only customers. Nice that they still provide dinner when it's just two people. So we had the boat, staff, and band all to ourselves. Their band's repertoire was fairly modest. They knew Beatles songs and a few others, and anything they lacked they made up for by being friendly.
Menu was a little fish Heavy for flickums - starter was a deep fries prawn thing, and there was fish as art of the main, Also the Satay sauce on the second course wasn't really to Flick's taste, But the pumpkin soup was great! And there was some stuffed chicken and beef in a tangy sauce for the main. Dessert was crème brulee. Absolutely delicious.
Was fun having a whole boat to ourselves. Also nice to see some party boats go by. Some of them saw us and waved at us waving at them (I don't know who initiated the waving).
So, that was day 1. Low key but we didn't want to do a lot,
