Went to see dolphins. It wasn't a total success. But at least we saw dolphins.

Set off bright and early, to arrive at the other side if Bali. Bali is not a small island so it took 3 hours to get to the other side.

Our boat was smaller than I expected. A narrow wooden boat with pontoons and an outboard motor.

We zipped off on a boat and after some time we saw dolphins!

The idea was that I'd put on a mask and snorkel and jump in while holding onto a swing attachment. First time I got in a bit of a flap. Wasn't expecting the boat to be moving.  Second time I was a little more prepared and realised I needed to hang on superman style. And it was fantastic! Saw the dolphins swimming underwater.  [personal profile] flickums found the boat wasn't really easy to jump out of with short legs, so we decided to call dolphins done and head to the coral for more snorkelling.

So we set off, and suddenly the engine stopped. Flipper has sabotaged the engine!

Some of the other boats stopped to offer assistance. Our captain refused for whatever reason, and instead called his brother, who arrived an hour or so later. We then had another hour being towed slowly to a place much further along the shore.

At this point, the rain started!

3 and a half hours later we finally returned to the hotel.

So bit of a wash really in every sense of the word, but we saw dolphins! I just can't help feeling spending 10 hours out of a day waiting for tows and traffic for about an hour with the dolphins is not the best use of a day.

Still, after getting back in we had the chance to shower, peel off wet clothes, and collapse. I hung the damp clothes on the towel rail. Which then collapsed.

I still think the day was salvaged. Went to the rooftop bar and pool to use one of our wedding gifts - wine and dine for two. It was a lovely cool evening and we sat there munching premium black burger and the crispiest fries I've ever tasted while sipping cocktails (for me) and Sprite (for Flickums). We finished off with a dip in the pool where we chatted about geeky crap as we like to as we unwind on holiday.

As I think about it, we did achieve the main aim of the day. We saw dolphins. We also saw monkeys on the way back. We did something memorable even if not the way we wanted it to be. And wrapping up the day chilling in the pool under stars makes me feel very happy to be married to flickums. I know it's schmaltzy, but we're newlyweds. We're allowed to be!
