So, finally home and some final thoughts.

Bali is a wonderful country! Fascinating scenery and the people were lovely.

Really pleased we took the hotel we did. I liked the rooftop pool - even if we didn't use it as much as I'd have liked. What I really like is that we were outside the somewhat synthetic gated community hotel complex.

Seems we were there in the off-season. Meant we had a lot of things to ourselves but didn't meeet new people.

Feel I spent way too long sitting in public transport. There was the 4 hour flight to Turkey, the 12 hour flight to Bali, the same on the way back. Also several long car rides. I spent over 24 hours just sitting in cars!

Find the design of buildings rather odd. A lot of them don't seem to have thresholds. The hotel didn't have a front door. Just walk up the steps and there's a reception desk. They have walls and ceilings but nothing at the front. The airport is similar. The airport could really do with being an enclosed place with air conditioning.

Really wish I had more of the local food. Indonesian cuisine is quite tasty.

Scooters are very popular. Given the nature of traffic I'm not suprised. they can to some degree zip around the traffic. Interestingly, the toll road causeway has a completely separate isolated lane from the main traffic - probably to allow a minimum speed limit to be maintained. Traffic is pretty horrible though.

It was a much busier trip than we were planning. My plan was to spend a lot of time chilling out, but there were things we just had to do!

Feel I want to give hot humid countries a break for a few years though. It's not just the heat and humidity, but the insects. Maybe Reykjavik should be the next place on my wishlist.
