I had a weekend off. No prior commitments. Didn't stop it from being a busy weekend.

Lets start with Friday.

A friend's band did a gig.

Went to the pub. Looked for my mate. Didn't see him, so I wandered out to call him and then saw him in a nearby pub. He's very easy to pick out in a a crowd. Everyone should have an albino friend. Chatted to his mates. An easy going raver, and a slightly sloaney girl who seemed quite good fun if a little self involved. Okay, maybe Sloane is a little harsh but it's the best description I can think of.

First band up was really appeal. The music was good. The singing wasn't. Second lot up were fantastic. The guillemots. Off the wall in a Madness sort of way. They totally knew how to work the crowd. Coming in from the back making noise. Music was cool, off the wall stuff as well.

I was actually there to see Speedway5. Funky experimental electro stuff's not usually my sort of music, but this is offbeat and mellow enough that I enjoy it. They had a much harder time of it. Nobody knew them, lots of noise when they started, but they were more than good enough to tame the crowd. Alas, the guys on before them went on too long, so their gig was cut short. Then we were agressively thrown out of the pub. That place really isn;t polite about that.

Still, it was fun.

Sloane Girl was busily seeing how drunk she could get before the bar close. I waited with her on the stairs. Someone walked past. SG said "She was so checking you out". Shame I was so oblivious that I didn't see who. Not to self: Must hang round with female friends who can actually spot this sort of thing.

Apparently there was a free party somewhere nearby in Covent garden. I did question the wisdom of trusting the person who was currently the drunkest there, but it seemed like fun to follow her. We got to Covent garden, where she made a call, found out we wanted to go to Ruby Blue in Leicester Square. Did a U-turn.

Leicester Square is an intersting place on a Friday night. Lots of people there, not one of them can walk in a straight line.

And we found the party.

And I didn't like it. Too crowded.

Was it an actual 'free party' or just a party that was free? If the former, I can understand your view on it :-)

A "free party". Go to the club/bar/whatever they call it, say you're there for the party, and squeeze in. Not quite sure who was paying for it.

That's not too bad. You were actually in a club/bar. The ones I got dragged along too (or went because a bloke I fancied was going) were in horrid warehouses with bad PA systems, the only alcohol you could buy was low budget cans of lager from a tiny bar with a huge queue for £3 a piece...

These days I am a little more discerning :-)

It was a decent enough place. I would have enjoyed it if they got rid of about a fifth of the people there. Just a bit too crowded.
