Another busy weekend.
But at least I slept in my own bed.
And I did some geekery, purchased a USB hub (before discovering that I didn't need to because the Psion Wavefinder doesn't work with XP), and a microphone. And now I can do proper video conferencing. Yay! Except I think I'll be talking to myself for a bit becauese I don't think anyone else has a webcam.
You can tell you have a hectic social life when the chance to do some cleaning comes as a relief. Not that I'm a very good cleaner. I clean and at the end of the day, the place looks pretty much as it did when I started. At least the oven is now a white colour (I'm the only person willing to clean that). I also unblocked the vacuuum cleaner, which must have been blocked up for weeks, but nobody noticed. Once again I can see my bedroom floor. Still need to move out and into a bigger place though. I have way too much assorted junk.
So, after that thrilling afternoon, I saw
the_smut_fairy and
just_a_monkey in Leicester Square. Traded a meal for the final day of the smut fairy's frightfest ticket.
Sunday was spent at Chez Gaspode, eating barbecued food and chatting about sci-fi, online gaming, probably a few other things. Then we played werewolf. To get the game going, I decided to arbitrarily accuse someone on the grounds that I didn't know her. The downside of this as a tactic is that I effectively painted a target on myself. Nice day for a drive as well. Air conditioning is lovely on such a hot day.
It was an excellent party. My compliments to
gaspodex and the lovely Gaspodia.
I spent Monday watching horror films at Frightfest. Except a lot of them weren't really horror. "Born to Fight" was a Thai action film, with the world's corniest plot, but some really cool action sequences. I want to see a making of. "And here, when you a guy being thrown off a lorry. We achieved this effect by throwing a bloke off a lorry". Seriously scary stuff. All done for real. In one shot someone falls between two lorries and lands just a couple of feet from the back wheels.
Can they still make actual horror films? Something that will actually scare us and make us want to run away screaming? Thrillers like WolfLake creek sort of hit the mark, but what about scary monster movies? They seem few and far between.
