Whenever anything goes wrong with my parent's computer, I'm the first person they call. Apparently, using the application about once every few weeks means I know more about Word than my mum - a secretary who uses the application every day.

This wouldn't be a huge problem. I can actually often solve these issues. I just wish they'd realise that I'm guessing what's on the screen at any given time. I can load a different version of the application that they're using, and guess what they have to do, but practically speaking I know less than they do.

That said, I did manage to fix their problem. Was this a mistake? They'll only ask next time a trivial thing goes wrong. Sigh.

Nope! Parents are generally technologically incompetent and even when they aren't they pretend to be (esp. when their children are around to help them).

They also like to harass their kids about simple applications so that when you come up with a solution they can sigh happily and go 'Aah! Having you formally eductated was not a complete waste of time...'

Use paint bucket 2000. This comes complete with all software and its own user interface.
