Why isn't there podcast software to do what I want?

What I want is a simply. lightweight podcast receiver (so iTunes is out) that does the following

• Sit in the system tray and check periodically for new podcasts, and download them.
• Allow me to subscribe by clicking a link in firefox.

It's this last feature that seems to be causing problems.  I found plenty that do the first.  I found a toal of one that manages the second.  But it doesn't run as a background task, so I have to actually go to the effort of thinking about it.  Is it really so hard?  It's not like this software actually needs to do much. 

So, I eventually found RSS Radio which is adequate but a little bit noisy. 

Now I need to work out what I want to listen to.
