Doh!

Flatmate's network connection died. Tried plugging a different network cable into his laptop, and it worked, so assumed the cable must have got damaged (these things happen - doors shut on them and stuff).

So I bought a new betwork cable, which involved a round trip to the depot ot collect, unravelled the old one, threaded the new one behind all my furniture, plugged it in, and it still didn't work.

Turns out it's a broken router socket. Doh! Plugged the cable into socket 2 and it works.

Anyone want a 20m network cable?

One day you'll really need a 20m cable and you'll be glad you bought it :D

Well, that's true. One of the most useful bits of cable I ever had was a 60cm extension lead. Ever had a power cable that was just that little bit too short?

I don't think I've ever had a power cable that *wasn't* too short :D

Those cables are quite hard to destroy... I have a long one from the House of Shiney Things that the ratties got at (such little darlings they are!) which still works fine (as far as I know, it worked when lat used it anyway)

Hard, but not impossible. I have witnessed what a bull terrier can do to a bit of cat5 (and, indeed, VGA cable) and it's not pretty. :D

Stirfry did a good job of chewing through mine. So I took the two pieces and connected them back together again with a lot of insulating tape and it worked fine!
