Another busy weekend
Aug. 22nd, 2005 01:43 pmFriday
Head of Steam. Star Munchkin. Rocket.
Saturday
Camden Market, London Dungeons, Indian food, pub.
Sunday
London Eye, Boat trip, Earth from the air, Millenium Bridge, Tate Modern, Forbidden Planet, Hamleys, Globe.
tinkerbell1980 had a couple of days in London before flying back to Israel. As a local, I was her tour guide.
It was all great.
The markets in Camden are probably my favourite places in the world. And everyone has to experience Cyberdog.
I loved the Dungeons. It's different from last time I went. I'm sure when I first went (when I was about 8) it was just static displays. But now it's very interactive. Each room has actors telling you the story. There's a new mirror maze. A boat ride (not too fast but dark and scary). Mirror Maze was a lot of fun. There was a guy standing there. Tinkerbell knew he was going to come towards us. And he did. And I got used as a human shield. The actors picked people out of the audience to demonstrate. I got picked on twice. The first time I was tortured. The second time I was put on Trial and found guilty, apparently of living in Clapham.
One of the rides was on a boat going down darkened corridors. Poor Tinkerbell was absolutely terrified. I got squeezed very tightly. Not that I'm complaining.
Tate Modern was fascinating. We saw the Frida exhibition. Impressive stuff.
I loved the globe. Everything about it was perfect. Including Tinkerbell's reaction. I have never seen anyone so awestruck. We saw the Winter's Tale (Most of it anyway. That's the problem with cheaper rediuced visibilty seats). All done very tradionally. No amplification. Real music. Loved it.
All in all we had a lot of fun. Comments from other people:
"Get a room".
Comments from Tinkerbell:
"I'm in heaven" - at Camden Market.
"This is heaven" - Forbidden Planet.
"I'm is heaven" - Hamleys.
"Wow. This really is heaven" - The Globe.
"I want my mummy" - London Dungeons.
EDIT: One other thing I feel I should mention - Tinkerbell1980 has the worlds most effective geekdar. We went to the pub from the youth Hostel. She said to a random guy "Want to go to the pub". He said "Sure". Turned out he was an American maths geek.
