So, it's 2015. No flying cars, or lunar colonies, but I do have a pocket computer, electronic books and indirect access to zeroth generation replicators.

It's been a pleasant week. Flew home from Berlin, bitter about the cockups that meant that Berlin Brandenburg still isn't open. But I got home safely, got in, wrapped presents, left to see friends for Christmas Eve drinks. For complicated reasons which I may go into later, I got invited to a party and the people there were so friendly that it was hard to leave.

Christmas was a nice enough affair. Kids seemed to have a good time. Nephew liked the magic set I got him, after a little coaxing from the grownups. Niece seemed to enjoy the playdoh hair kit. I received a copy of Cash and Guns, a bowler hat, a segway rally voucher, and socks. Plus a chocolate-chilli russian roulette game. Cool stuff. Hat needs an outfit to go with it. Will need to think about that.

Managed to get to Woking for boardgaming and seeing people I'd not seen for ever! That was fun. Needed to get back before it was too late though, so had to adandon the pandemic before it was cured. Aso discovered Pandemic is an intriguing game. Fun times were had.

And then we reached New Year! [livejournal.com profile] flickums was there!! Hugs were had!!!! There was some other stuff going on as well, but since we hadn't seen each other since August, I did find myself a little distracted. Apparently we're "adorably cute" together.

New year chimed! Got a kiss at midnight (yay!). Then we went out and saw some fireworks! And heard someone ringing a bell and shouting Happy New Year!

Didn't manage to play the russian roulette game. Did chat to other people a bit. It was certainly an awesome New Year party.

Happy NEw Year all. Hope 2015 works for the rest of you!

Picocon

Once again Picocon was fun!  Not all the people I'd have liked to have seen there.  Was disappointed that my cousin couldn't make it.  Did spend a reasonable amount of time in the bar with [livejournal.com profile] tlanti , [livejournal.com profile] one_true_bee , and pirate_ninja (WINOLJ).  Since I was somewhat stressed, after limited sleep and a bit of a rush, I was pleased to have a couple of drinks with friends.

Got mixed up and muddled and confused about when stuff happened so missed half of Destruction of Dodgy Merchandise. Damn tiredness!

Panel was on Steampunk - literary genre or harmless fun.  Felt the Victorians were rather hard done by by the panelists.  While people didn't have a good life in those times, social conditions were a lot better at the end of the Victorian era than the beginning.  Would have raised the point but I'm shy and the panel came to the end.

Was pleased not to have missed the quiz.  Seems only [livejournal.com profile] scotiva  and I were interested (wouldn't have done it if I didn't have any friends there).  Our team did pretty well actually.  I even got a few of the answers.

Sunday

Went to visit parents in new temporary accommodation while their house dries.  Quite nice in many ways.  We can park easily at least.  Brother came with my nephew and we took scooters to the Old Fort in Shoreham.  It's fun!

In the evening, new geeky friend came. I made dinner.  We watched Stardust.  There may or may not have been smooching:)

Once again, busy busy, busy.

Thursday - Went to [personal profile] tictactoepony's and the brain's for gaming. [personal profile] tictactoepony had decided to steal my party idea and do a Japanese themed evening including Singstar Karaoke. Since I was the only person with the singstar games I was forcibly invited. [profile] tinkerbell1980, [profile] squirrel_dreams, [personal profile] ingaborg, [profile] aperrott, [profile] forbiddendanish, and [personal profile] beermat were there too. And we filked Spandau Ballet's Gold. Mucho fun. Except this made the rest of the week a bit of a rush.

Weekend was Starfury Serenity. I felt I should go to because Gigi Edgely was there.

This was what I wrote on my PDA during the week.

Mostly in terse note form.  Since this is my first update since the holiday started, there's quite a bit.

I don't like trendy lounge bars. They charge so much, the staff are useless and usually deaf, the choice sucks (trendy bars only serve trendy beers) and they play music all the time. Still, someone I met online wanted to meeet up, so I figured why not. Beats staying at home moping about being single on Valentines day.

So I met Pikkle. Nice girl. Slightly goth. Likes Sci-fi. Took out a mortgage on a kidney and bought a couple of drinks. Chatted about Sci-fi, people, places, university, and so on. No sparks or anything, but I think I made a new friend. And she suggested we should go to Slimelight sometime. I think it was a success.

Finally got to a new year party. Went to the House of Anime. Unlike last year, I actually got a new year kiss. Yay! No chocolate fondue to outclass me this year:)

Unlike lots of other people, I rather liked 2005, after a shaky start. So, what are my new years esolutions? Well, I don't have any per se. I tend not to do that sort of thing. The middle of winter is the worst time for me to make lifestyle changes, and why should I wait anyway? i've already made the decision to backup more often and get out more, but I've had a few days off work, so it's as good a time as any for a little reflection, so what do I want from this year?

Well, I still want to move back to Bristol, but that doesn't look likely yet. So, I should make the best of what I have... This means I still need to make more friends in London. This is difficult since I'm kinda choosy about friends. Would also be nice to find somewhere better to live. I will have to see what sort of a mortgage I could manage. How extremely dull.

And I rather enjoyed New Year's day. Involved roast dinner, curry, and lots of X-Files and Look Around You.

I still haven't managed independent confirmation of the existence of [livejournal.com profile] spacefall. I did discover that many people in Bristol were quite happy to share their wireless networks. Perhaps they didn't realise how insecure they are. I think it's rather a shame that people are so pleased with their wireless network, but are totally oblivious to the need for security. Okay - I'm not going to do anything too mean. I will take advantage of it to check email, which is pretty harmless. Other people could use it for all sorts of mischief.

Friday

Head of Steam. Star Munchkin. Rocket.

Saturday

Camden Market, London Dungeons, Indian food, pub.

Sunday

London Eye, Boat trip, Earth from the air, Millenium Bridge, Tate Modern, Forbidden Planet, Hamleys, Globe.

[livejournal.com profile] tinkerbell1980 had a couple of days in London before flying back to Israel. As a local, I was her tour guide.

It was all great.

EDIT: One other thing I feel I should mention - Tinkerbell1980 has the worlds most effective geekdar. We went to the pub from the youth Hostel. She said to a random guy "Want to go to the pub". He said "Sure". Turned out he was an American maths geek.

Wow!

What a weekend.

Worldcon is big

Really big.

You may think that elephants are big, buts that's nothing.....

Okay. Time to talk about Worldcon.
This is long, but in summary )
I had fun so much fun. An unforgettable time. Best. Convention. Ever.

I was hoping I'd get a chance to update before today. Sadly I didn't. But I've got a while until I have to get a train, so I'll give a brief summary of the past few days. Full report will be forthcoming soon.

Went to Worldcon.

Went to many parties.

Met some very nice people.

Danced a little.

Saw a play.

Watched the Hugo presentation.

Drank lots.

Talked Sci-fi.

Behaved like a tart.

Things that I forgot to do include sleeping and eating. There was a programme clash. Something had to go, and it was those. The result is I'm tired and hungry. This is not a good state to be in but worth it.

I also have a small bundle of Bank of Scotland notes, which I know are going to be cause a problem at least a couple of times in London.

Yay! It's now 2005. Alas, once again, I didn't get a New Year kiss.

If anyone wishes to pimp out themselves or their friends, please respond below;)
