USA announces it is to host World Press Freedom day 2011. The theme is 21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers.

"The United States places technology and innovation at the forefront of its diplomatic and development efforts. New media has empowered citizens around the world to report on their circumstances, express opinions on world events, and exchange information in environments sometimes hostile to such exercises of individuals’ right to freedom of expression."

Also in the news, USA pressures Mastercard, Visa and Paypal to suspend payments to Wikileaks

I just don't get the theological arguments against it.

Yes, I realise Jesus (allegedly) only had male disciples.  Did he actually give a reason for this?  Has anyone speculated on the reason for this?  Could it be perhaps because first century Israel was actually not modern progressive 21st century country?

Is that the reason?  Seems way too simplistic to be seriously considered.

Stereotypes

Nick Clegg wants to repeal all the bad laws that Labout introduced.  And boy are there a lot of them...

What the Telegraph readers thought were important, and the Guardian readers.

Seems the Torygraph readers are only concerned about the EU and the HRA.  Gruniad readers OTOH seem to be a lot more concerned about Civil liberties.

It's nice to see the old steretypes still apply.

I saw this poster

Somehow I felt a little disturbed.

I find the whole thing implausible for starters.  Are we really meant to believe that the terrorist was so concerned with surveillance that he let himself be spotted?

Are we supposed to be suspicious of absolutely everyone?  That's really not a country I want to live in!

I was stopped in the street by someone trying to sell Paintball vouchers.  He used an odd bit of terminology that I keep seeing and hearing.  Companies are no longer "promoting" their products with special offers and giveaways, but instead "celebrating".

What's with that?  Surely we don't have a problem with them marketing and trying to sell their products.  That's kind of the point of companies isn't it?.

Firstly though, Cool and bizarre pictures

I was listening on the radio t a report talking about bank bonuses and that there was a person who complained that the bank was taking too much risk.

As it turned out, he was right.  But that doesn't actually mean anything.  Hindsight is always 20-20.  Here's an example: I can predict with 100% accuracy, the results of 5 coin tosses.  I'll make 31 other predictions that are wrong...

I read in the Metro that 11% of girls aged 12-18 are allowed to have boys stay overnight.  Sounds pretty awful doesn't it?  But a third of that group is above 16.  If 33% of that group are allowed boys to stay overnight, then that would explain the statistics perfectly, but wouldn't sound nearly as shocking.
